Treasure, Oil And The Wise
Poverbs 21:20 KJV There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up.
Growing up and seeing various movies about the Pirates and Treasure Seekers. How they risk everything and at times sell all they have when they discover a treasure island. And also reading through Matt. 13:44. It all made sense to me. They have placed a very high value over the treasure. A value higher than their current state of wealth. Any possession that is highly valued by it’s owner, according to Wordweb.
Oil serves as fuel for the body and is also used in lamps before the discovery of many other light sources. Matt. 25:1-10 sheds light on this.
Wisdom is the right application of knowledge and the ones who rightly apply knowledge are called the Wise.
God wants us as Christians to be wiser than the children of this world (Lk 16:8). And advised us in Matt. 6:19-21 that our treasure should be layed in heaven where no rust, moth or thieves can breakthrough.
Luke 12:15 reveals that a man’s life is not in the abundance of his acquisition. Even the rich and wealthy ones are scared of what their future will be like and worry what kind of child would handle all they’ve laboured for (Eccl. 2:19).
The wise will let his household be filled with the knowledge of God and His Kingdom which is the greatest treasure. The oil which is the symbol of the Holy Spirit will be available in his household then he will be called the Wise.
Many waste their lives to acquire what will not be required in eternity.
Let us pray: Father, teach me to be wise.
