A break for the gift.
Lev. 26:35 KJV As long as it lieth desolate it shall rest; because it did not rest in your sabbaths, when ye dwelt upon it.
It’s easy to plunge into work, pleasure, and any other thing, forgetting to rest till nature calls. That’s why God told us to set a day apart for rest, Sabbath.
When I got my first laptop. I was always busy with work, trying to see the latest video to enhance my skill in Graphics Design. I will be indoors for days and wouldn’t take a break till nature calls. You know, from hunger to using the bathroom and eventually sleep off. The power supply organisation was helping me to consume myself in those days. There was no seizure of power supply in Somolu, the area I grew up in and quality prints abode. Thanks to some group of printers who sorted that out. I guess those who earn a living from what they love doing can relate. The excitement when you finally breakthrough, the problem you’ve been trying to solve is over. And the drive to go an extra mile.
We are so absorbed in work that we hardly spend time with our family. Social media has replaced our social lives. Technology has kept those who are far near and the near afar. We preoccupy our denominations with various religious activities that ain’t of any benefit to our spiritual lives. We are so excited with the gift, and as the giver calls, we ignore Him. He’s been telling us to stop, take a break from this workaholism. Take a break from the pleasures of life. Don’t let religious activities destroy our relationship. It takes a good home to live a good life; He says.
Like a Father who loves His children so much. As a Creator, He can’t sit back and see His works destroyed. To remind us of our debility. That we are nothing without Him. And that even if you aren’t willing to rest, the gift I have given to you have to. He is telling us we can’t destroy the gift, mother earth before it’s appointed time. He has given the earth a Sabbath to keep. If men can’t value rest, the earth will value it.
Let’s humbly enjoy the compulsory rest He has given to us. Let’s also learn from this and value everything He has given. Above all, let’s not forget that He can take the gift and the recipient away.
God gives gifts to draw us closer. We should do well by getting closer to Him and not being consumed with the gift.
Let us pray: Father, help me get off the rat race as I fix my look unto You.
