James 1:27 KJV Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
Man’s quest for the supernatural exposed him to the diabolical. A system that brought about the multiple vices to our world coupled with religion. Leaving us in this unforeseen state.
However, the first Love of man, God, is still calling and patiently waiting for man to find his way back to Him. He had already made provision for restoration which many still believe is too good to be true and are struggling with the false and difficult ways.
Religion as defined by Oxford is the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods. It is also defined as a particular system of faith and worship.
This word Religion had its origin from Middle English (originally in the sense ‘life under monastic vows’): from Old French, or from Latin religio (n-) ‘obligation, bond, reverence’, perhaps based on Latin religare ‘to bind’. Source: Google.
It is a fact that a larger chunk of the world is religious. Despite the various religions, there is none regarded as the pure religion, not even Christianity. That means that all religion is ordinary except one which is qualified as the pure.
What is pure religion? As revealed to us in James 1:27, visiting the orphans and widows to cheer them up and meet their needs is the pure religion. Then you can keep yourself pure, unspotted, unstained, clean from the world.
Our Religion is based on satisfying our Supreme Being (God). So everyone tries to keep himself pure. We mostly forget to take care of the needy. Little wonder our service isn’t acceptable.
Let me balance this. Christianity is more than a Religion. It is a lifestyle. It is nothing less than discipleship. Following the footsteps of our Lord and saviour, Jesus Christ. If you think you are a Christian and ain’t living the life of Christ. You are fooling yourself. You don’t have to be told to care for the needy. You don’t have to be told to make yourself pure. These qualities will come naturally if you have the Christ and the Spirit of Truth. If you lack these qualities, check who you are following.
If you have the Spirit of Truth, your life will be pure and true.
Let us pray: Father, help me to live in the Truth.
