READ: Acts 9:36-43
Bullet Verse: Acts 9:39-40(Easy to Read Version) Peter got ready and went with them. When he arrived, they took him to the upstairs room. All the widows stood around him. They were crying and showing him the coats and other clothes that Tabitha had made during her time with them. Peter sent all the people out of the room. He knelt down and prayed. Then he turned to Tabitha’s body and said, “Tabitha, stand up!” She opened her eyes.
Many Christians pray prayer points like “God kill my emotions!”, “Father please let my emotions die”. However, they don’t properly grasp the essence of emotions in the life of a Christian.
When Tabitha died, All the people that she had helped in her lifetime started to cry and wail to Peter. And he was moved to raise her by the Holy Ghost’s power. Note, he was MOVED.
God made us humans for a reason. We are not sticks. He placed in us emotions, anger, joy, love, hatred, etc, to make us react to situations. Emotions are the drivers of actions. Even Jesus had emotions; at some point He got angry, He was sad at a point, He cried at a point too, and all these emotions helped Him to do good.
When the prophet told King Hezekiah that he was going to die, the king prayed to God reminding him of his good deeds on Earth. God was MOVED to add 15 more years to his time on Earth.
Imagine a young man whose parents have financial difficulties and still he goes ahead to spend money on alcohol. Imagine a lady whose husband is terminally sick and she still sleeps around. On the larger scale, imagine all the troubles plaguing the citizens of Nigeria and the leaders still do whatever they like. Emotions are dead in so many people. They don’t love, they don’t pity, they don’t have remorse. Without these emotive abilities, a change cannot be effected.
Even Nehemiah had the burning desire to restore his ruined city of Jerusalem before God called him to actually do so.
Don’t pray to God to kill your emotions. You need them to be truly human. Until you truly feel for your generation, you won’t be moved to effect a change. Your influence on this generation is a function of how much you emote feelings.
From today, open your heart to the world around you, and effect change.
God bless you.
PRAYER POINT: Father, plant in me the burden for my generation, move me to effect change.
